RAWALPINDI, Pakistan — A magistrate’s court on Monday remanded four individuals, including two women, into police custody for four days in connection with the rape and murder of a 21-year-old orphaned woman, police said.
According to initial investigations, the victim’s brother-in-law and a neighbor had been assaulting her for months. When she became eight months pregnant, the four suspects allegedly poisoned her and buried her body to cover up the crime.
Authorities arrested another suspect who reportedly parked his vehicle at the home of the victim’s brother-in-law. The suspects were presented before Magistrate Hasnat Aslam Gondal, who approved their remand as police sought to recover evidence, including batons and poison pills.
Police have taken DNA samples from the suspects and confiscated their mobile phones. The victim’s exhumed body confirmed she was pregnant at the time of death. Forensic reports provided evidence of rape, torture, and poisoning.
The victim had been living with her sister’s in-laws since the death of her parents.
