Kulhudhuhfudhi, Maldives — The ruling People’s National Congress’ majority leader, Ibrahim Falaah, predicted an overwhelming victory in the upcoming local council elections, telling supporters that the party is poised to secure more than 80 percent of the vote.

Ibrahim Falaah, the PNC’s parliamentary group leader and campaign manager for the April 4 elections, made the remarks at a rally on Wednesday in Kulhudhuhfudhi, framing the vote as a choice between continued development and what he described as stagnation under previous administrations.

“That day will decide whether you want the right way to move forward and grow for your children and the town, the city and the country, or you will want to keep the development of the city as it is,” he said.

Falaah urged voters to “test” the PNC’s slate of candidates, insisting that a council aligned with the government would accelerate long‑promised projects. “I am 100 percent sure that, with the blessings of Allah, this team will become a council that will work with today’s government to complete all the work in this city,” he said.

The campaign has leaned heavily on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s development agenda, which Falaah described as unprecedented in the country’s recent political history. He said the president’s latest presidential address had laid out a detailed national plan, calling the administration a “development government.”

Falaah argued that local councils must work in tandem with the government to deliver on infrastructure and social programs, particularly in island communities where projects have stalled or been delayed.

He also suggested that the PNC’s momentum was already visible: in several constituencies, he said, the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party had failed to field candidates, effectively handing those seats to the ruling party.

Addressing supporters in Kulhudhuhfushi, Falaah noted that since the adoption of the 2008 Constitution, no party other than the MDP has held a majority in the city council. He urged residents to “change that mindset” and give the PNC an opportunity to govern locally.

The PNC, he said, has a “strong leader” in President Muizzu and should be granted a mandate across the country’s councils to ensure continuity in development efforts.

“God willing, the PNC will win this election with more than 80 percent of the vote,” he said.
