Google has started work on a USD 15 billion artificial intelligence hub in Visakhapatnam, marking its largest AI investment outside the United States . The company launched the project on Tuesday as part of a five‑year plan to build a full‑scale AI ecosystem in India’s southeast coast city, also known as Vizag.
Bikash Koley, Google’s vice president for global infrastructure, said the hub will include a gigawatt‑scale data centre to support services such as Gemini and Google Search . He described the project as a major step in Google’s long‑term digital commitment to India.
Andhra Pradesh Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh said the launch strengthens the state’s plan to build India’s most advanced AI and deep‑tech hub . He said the project will support new jobs, research activity and technology‑driven development.
Google also confirmed that Visakhapatnam is being developed as a landing point for submarine internet cables that will link India to Singapore, expanding the country’s digital infrastructure and international connectivity .
Koley said the project represents a pivotal moment for India, for Vizag and for Google, signalling deeper cooperation between the company and India’s technology sector .
