NEW DELHI — The U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs has placed India on its agenda for the current Congress, signaling continued American interest in deepening ties with New Delhi, particularly in the defense and technology sectors. While India ranks 11th among the committee’s priorities, the review underscores the growing strategic importance of the U.S.-India relationship amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.

According to the committee’s oversight plan, lawmakers will assess bilateral cooperation “rooted in shared democratic values” while countering the influence of U.S. adversaries in South and Central Asia. A key focus will be on defense collaboration, including security technology, expanded roles in regional security, and counterterrorism efforts. Additionally, discussions will cover economic engagement, particularly in technology, telecommunications, and pharmaceuticals.

The committee will also examine India’s role in the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) alongside the U.S., Japan, and Australia, as well as its growing energy demands. However, the top priority for the committee remains China, with a focus on Beijing’s human rights violations, trade policies, and its role in multilateral agreements.

Beyond India, the committee’s agenda includes Taiwan, Russia’s war in Ukraine, the Middle East, and broader Indo-Pacific security, reinforcing Washington’s strategic pivot to the region.
