Russian President Vladimir Putin secured a resounding victory in his re-election bid, clinching over 80% of the votes and extending his tenure for another six years in the country’s recent three-day presidential election.

With a staggering close to 88% of the vote, the 71-year-old leader secured his fifth term, marking one of the highest electoral margins in Russia’s post-Soviet history.

Indian Prime Minister Modi extended warm congratulations to Putin on his re-election, expressing anticipation for further strengthening the enduring Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia.

Earlier this year, Putin commended India and PM Modi for their pursuit of an independent foreign policy, lauding their resilience in a challenging global landscape.

According to the latest data from the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC), Putin secured 87.28% of the votes, with Nikolay Kharitonov, Leonid Slutsky, and Vladislav Davankov trailing behind with modest percentages.

CEC head Ella Pamfilova highlighted a historic voter turnout of at least 74.44%, expressing gratitude to international observers for their scrutiny of the election process. Delegations of observers continued their assessments, with minimal complaints reported by the head of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia and former presidential candidate, Leonid Slutsky.
