The Maldives National Skills Development Authority (MNSDA) and the Maldivian Medical Association for Traditional Medicine have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop skilled professionals in the country’s traditional healing practices.
The agreement was signed today at the MNSDA headquarters. Chief Executive Officer Zahra Mohamed signed on behalf of the authority, while representatives of the Maldivian Traditional Medicine Association signed on behalf of the organisation.
According to the Ministry of Higher Education, the MoU aims to establish national occupational competency standards and a dedicated training package for Maldivian traditional medicine. The ministry said the initiative will help formalise the field and ensure recognised qualifications for practitioners.
Under the agreement, individuals who have worked in traditional medicine for more than five years will be eligible to obtain national certification through MNSDA’s National Trade Testing and Certification Programme.
The ministry noted that reviving and preserving traditional Maldivian practices is a key pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. As part of this effort, MNSDA is developing specialised standards for traditional skills and disappearing local arts.
